Beauty Review: LUSH Cosmetics #GAYISOK

Happy Sunday! This week has been a huge leap forward for the LGBTQ community as the American Supreme Court declared gay marriage to be legal in all fifty states. The announcement came just in time to welcome London's Gay Pride celebrations this weekend. To spread the word, LUSH Cosmetics, have got in on the action by launching their own Love Soap.

We all know LUSH. You'd have to be living under a rock not to know the brand here in the UK, especially in the blogging community which is why I've never seen the point in reviewing them. But something you may or may not know about the all-natural cosmetic company is that they have teamed up with gay rights charities, creating this rather gorgeous gold bar of Love Soap which proudly says "#GAYISOK! Spread the word!"

The little gold bars have been created especially to raise awareness and money for All Out, a charity that supports human rights efforts in the 76 countries where homosexuality is still a crime. The original goal of the campaign was to sell 10 million of these soaps in the hope of spreading awareness across social media and through it's stores. However, since it's launch, LUSH have already sold 100 million and counting!

The soap itself smells amazing! Made from lemon grass and citrus oils, it's creamy with gold glitter leaving a gorgeous yet subtle golden glimmer on your hands. I absolutely had to have one and sport such a fantastic cause.

In producing these, LUSH are not just celebrating equality for Pride weekend but they are raising awareness for other countries who aren't quite there yet. While it might seem crazy to us, and those of us who are straight, there is still so much dangerous prejudice towards homosexuality. These soaps have not been illegal to sell in 100 of their LUSH stores; stores like ones in Russia and Uganda due to the fact that even advertising them would be illegal and to do so would put staff at risk. So if you can make a special effort to go to your local LUSH and pick one of these beauties up for just £4, share it on your social media - think of all the unity and love you can share! You can check out more info about the cause of their site HERE.

Also in this little batch is Space Girl (blue, above) - a bath bomb with a fruity (I think PEZ) smell that's made from grapefruit oil and popping candy! And Sakura (pink/multi-coloured), a bath bomb inspired by Japanese cherry blossom with jasmine and mimosa. Thanks so much to my amazing best friend, Vanessa, for treating me to these two.

Congrats America! Well done for doing something you should of done a long time ago. I look forward to when it's no longer gay marriage, but just marriage. Are you celebrating at London Gay Pride this weekend? How have you been showing your efforts for the cause? I'm loving seeing Facebook lit up like a rainbow at the moment with everyone's profile photos. Let me know what you think of these gorgeous soaps below! Happy Gay Pride weekend!

  3. It's great that the US has joined many other countries in having a more inclusive society but it was a 5-4 decision making it pretty close. But this decision is here to stay. No future court would dare to invalidate the marriages of so many people. Historically, June 28 was chosen for Gay Pride because of the arrests at Stonewall Inn in 1969 in NYC.

It's great that Lush is donating the proceeds of the soap to try to end prejudice in many countries of the world.

I noticed on twitter that you mentioned that you still were feeling sick as of the 24th, Sophie. Are you ok, now? If your illness has lasted more than a week, maybe you should schedule an appointment with your doctor, if you haven't done so already. xx

    1. Me too! I know, it's awful isn't it to think that a bar of soap could be illegal because of what it represents. It's insane. Loved your latest haul! Thanks hun x
