Beauty Review: Katy Perry's Mad Potion Gift Set

Hello, hello. Back again with another beauty review and today's is a little overdue but also forward thinking for Christmas gift ideas. Some of you may know that back in August, fabulous pop sensation, Katy Perry, released her seventh fragrance, Mad Potion. Naturally being a self confessed Katycat, I thought I'd share my review of her latest gift set with you all...

For those of you who haven't seen the advert or follow Katy's every move, Mad Potion is inspired by the dark art of potion making and all things magic - seeing Katy looking as gorgeous as ever in a top hat on the box. With a 1920s inspired look, crescent moons and stars - I absolutely adore the theme that Katy was going for and think this is a great, yet consistent transition from her previous fragrances. The gift set itself comes with three products; a 30ml eau de parfume, 75ml Body Lotion and 75ml Shower Gel both containing the perfume...

The 30ml Mad Potion Perfume - Unlike Katy's previous fragrances such as Killer Queen Oh So Sheer and Purr, which are far sweeter and fruity based, Mad Potion is heavily vanilla scented with more subtle hints of fruit instead. I have never been a big fan of vanilla but luckily this is not too powering and the undertones of fruit balance it out keeping it sweet and feminine. I do think that whilst this is not my favourite of Katy's perfumes, I think it makes for a playful yet subtle everyday scent. The bottle is an attractive yet simple design, with a magic ball inspired cap - definitely more toned down then her previous more novelty bottles but definitely still one for the collection.

The shower gel and body lotion too contain the Mad Potion scent and luckily, it is very subtle so you can use all three products together at once to really get the benefit.

The 75ml Mad Potion Shower Gel is very much what you would expect from a £15 gift set -it washes your body fine and it smells nice but it's not particularly nourishing on the skin so if you have a particular skin type or dry skin, probably one to avoid. For normal skin types, however, it is a great everyday body wash that leaves you and your bathroom smelling awesome.

The 75ml Mad Potion Body Lotion is much like the shower gel, not particularly great if you have dry skin but it's a good daily body lotion for normal skin types. At first the same is not very apparent and it may seem like you can't smell it at all but once it soaks in to the skin, it really gives out that lovely, subtle Mad Potion smell. I really liked this product.

Overall, I still think that the original Killer Queen is my favourite of Katy Perry's many wonderful perfumes but Mad Potion is an excellent alternative. Being inspired by the dark arts, I would have expected something a little more statemented but if you love light, musky and vanilla scents then this one is ideal. I feel I am always sticking up for Katy's perfumes as unfortunately they can get stereotyped along side all the millions of crap celebrity perfumes but Katy of not, I would totally buy them for the quality and amazing smells. As usual, Katy has nailed it with a fun and unique scent and I think this would make for a real treat for any Katycat come Christmas time. This gift set is priced at £15-24 and can be found across all Superdrug and Boots drugstores.

So there you have it for a Katy Perry's Mad Potion review. Have you ever tried Katy Perry's perfumes? What are your thoughts on celebrity perfumes? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave them below. Hope everyone's having an excellent week so far!

Peace and love,

    1. Yeah this one is definitely different from her previous ones but I still like it. Killer Queen is still the best one! Floral but sweet and fruity xx

  2. Must admit, love the Katy Perry Killer Queen perfume - it's a good everyday perfume to have and affordable too so you don't have to worry if you a bit trigger-happy spraying the perfume.

Love your blog design and layout by the way :)

    1. Yeah I think the perfume is best to get in the set as the bottle itself is pretty pricey for the size. You definitely get more value for money with the set! Xx
