Beauty Review: PMD Personal Microderm

Happy December 1st everyone! 'Tis officially the season and today, I'm back with another beauty review and possible Christmas gift idea. Having tried it out myself over the last few weeks, I'm sharing my experience of the PMD Personal Microderm- a hand-held microdermabrasion kit which aims to brighten the skin.

The PMD personal microdermabrasion* prides itself on reducing the appearance of wrinkles, ache/spots and smoothing away dead skin cells using exfoliation. It works to gently buff away the outer layer of skin, removing the barrier of dirt, oil and dead skin cells which can sometimes leave your skin looking dull/tired or causing spots and uneven skin tone.

I've never really considered myself to have particularly bad skin and in past posts, I'm sure I've mentioned that I'm always a little apprehensive about trying skin care products out of fear of causing damage. In my option - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, I am getting a little older (luckily no signs of wrinkles just yet) and, with the changes in weather, I do find that my skin can face the odd break out of dryness or oil build up. When PMD got a touch with me, I was pretty keen to see if these babies really do work...

The complete kit comes with an instructional DVD (definitely watch this before you begin!), power cable and a choice of seven exfoliating discs of various sizes and sensitivity to be used on the face and body. The box also includes a helpful, gentle white disc as a tester to first try out on your arm to help you get used to the correct to hold it and the speed.

Before receiving this product, I had a look online at other people's reviews and some people gave themselves grazes and burns but since researching it a little further, I realised that this can just to misuse of the product. I strongly recommend watching the DVD before hand as if you're nervous about trying this, as I was, it's important to know how to use it.

I was really scared of buffing my entire face off but I found that testing it on my arm before hand really helped me get used to the movement. My top tips for using this correctly are the following:

*Watch the DVD - I cannot stress this enough.
*Thoroughly wash your face before using the PMD.
*Make sure your skin is completely dry and give it a few minutes before starting.
*Start with a blue disk first before working up to a higher exfoliator.
*Make sure the disk is lower then the protective cap to create a barrier between the disk and your face
*Try to go quickly when using it on your face - quick, move in lines, following the shape of your face
*Try to tighten the skin with your free hand.
*Avoid going over the same area more than twice as this could cause damage.

Overall, I was really pleased with the PMD. Though not for regular use (I'd say I only need to use this every month or so, if that) but I definitely noticed a difference in my skin being a lot clearler and a more even complexion after the first couple of uses. I haven't actually used this on my body yet but I imagine this is something I'll definitely try in the future. The only downside, I think, is that you have to use this product whilst attached to the mains and so it's not very portable. However, this does save you having to charge it or pay out for batteries. The PMD is available from Harrods or online here, priced £150, in various colours. Make sure to read the instructions fully and after a while, it's quite a pleasant feeling and your skin will be left feeling fresh and super smooth.

Would you ever try the PMD Personal Microderm? What are your experiences of microderm buffers? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave them below. That's it for another beauty review,

Until next time,

    1. Yeah that's the only downside but I spose it does stop you getting half way through your face when the battery dies haha. Hope you get a chance to try it out though! xx

  4. This sounds really interesting. My skin can get a lot duller in the colder months with the change of temperature and so a slightly more intense regime sounds good. Glad you enjoyed using it, but with anything involving my face I always read the instructions first...definately would not like to get burned, so great advice :( Li x
