Foodie Review: White Trash Fast Food, Berlin

Another Berlin foodie review today and this time, it's possibly one of the strangest but fun eateries I've visited in a long time. With it's own built in tattoo parlour and junkyard decor, White Trash Fast Food is one I couldn't wait to review for you all...

**Update February 2019 - Unfortunately, White Trash Fast Food is now permanently closed**

White Trash Fast Food came highly recommended by several friends who assured me it would be right up my street. Specializing in jerk chicken, burgers and BBQ dishes, White Trash boasts to be fine family dining with a rock'n'roll edge located in Kreuzberg, Berlin. A popular hangout for punks and metal heads after dark, the whole restaurant, which also turns to a live music venue, is complete with tattoo studio and decorated with band and graffiti stickers. If you're lucky enough, you may also find yourself greeted by the restaurants own lovable mascot, Coco the dog, who certainly kept myself and Jack entertained for the majority of our visit.

The menu itself is also not for the faint-hearted - featuring dishes such as "Fuck Off Fries", Octopus Burger and sexy coleslaw, it truly encapsulates the essence of what it means to be wonderfully white trash. Seeing such an unusual range of choices on the menu, I thought I'd opted for something a little different from my usual steak or cheese burger...

When in Rome, choose the Octopus Burger. The dish includes a whole octopus (with head removed), marinated in coriander, garlic and White Trash seasoning on an organic white bun. The burger is served with chunky fries, a salad and sexy slaw. The octopus itself was rather huge but a perfectly sized portion. It's wonderfully tender yet meaty, bursting with flavour. For those of you who have never tried octopus, it is essentially the best calamari you've ever had. Though a similar taste to squid, it is far more tender, less chewy and more flavoursome. For dessert, I went for the traditional German Apple Pie which is very much what you would expect from an apple pie really but delicious none the less. Served with whipped cream, a cherry with a side of vanilla ice cream and nuts. It was just the right size following the size of my main and I was left pleasantly full.

The average dish at White Trash Fast Food is priced at around €10-15 plus drinks, very reasonable given the size of their plates and their beer steins. Overall, I'm really glad we visited White Trash after I'd heard so many great things about it. It was the perfect choice for our final evening in Berlin and it certainly did not lack in character. The service was not outstanding, our food took a little while to arrive due to how busy it was but the staff were super friendly and I could appreciate that it was a large restaurant with a full house on a Friday night. Having finished our wonderful meal, we finished up our evening with a slow stroll along the river Spree and before heading back to the hotel.

So there you have it for another sneaky installment of my time in Berlin, cleverly disguised as a foodie review. Have you ever been to White Trash? What do you think of the look of the Octopus Burger? As always, I love reading your comments below so please do leave me your thoughts below.

Until next time food lovers,

  6. The octopus burger looks great! I love the menu names. Right now, I'm having seafood but nothing so adventurous. Just some cod fillets flavored with butter. One of these days I'll try some octopus :)

    1. It really was yummy. I got a little nervous after I ordered it and wondered if it was a good idea but it was so tender and delicious. Not fishy at all really and far nicer then squid in texture and taste :)
