Beauty Review: The Skin Camouflage Kit

The Skin Camouflage Concealer Kit review
It's been a while since my last beauty review and so this post is long overdue. A few weeks ago, I received The Skin Camouflage Concealer Kit - a product which helps to cover tattoos, scars and all manner of skin imperfections. Personally, I really didn't like it. But here's why...

Rio Skin Camouflage Concealer Kit
Claiming to conceal tattoos, scars, birthmarks, vitiligo and rosacea, The Skin Camouflage Kit* boasts to fulfil a rather tall order. The kit itself contains four unique colourperfect concealers (pictured below) which can be blended together to create your own perfectly matching concealer. Aiding your blending are a mixing pot, three cosmetic brushes and a powder sponge for your fixing powder - used to set and mattify your foundation. With the majority of my skin covered in tattoos and a rather prominent scar on my forehead, I considered myself to be the perfect tester for the product. So does it really work?

In all honesty? It didn't work for me. Whilst having a variety of shades can be seen as a positive to many, blending your own shade (especially if you use the product daily) can be rather difficult to achieve the right skin tone. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the brushes supplied with the kit and I found that when I used my own brushes it was a lot easier to blend and achieve a smoother finish. I also found that when using the fixing powder (which is literally just talcum powder) and sponges that they actually ended up removing a lot of the product I had spent a while trying to apply to my skin. This leads me to believe that as a concealer, it's probably not very long wearing and found that my own personal foundation and powder that I use daily, actually did a better job. The main thing that bothers me, however, is that neither the brand (who I emailed) nor the company who supplied the kit to me can tell me whether or not the makeup is cruelty free - which means, it's probably not. That's a big no for me.

So I'm aware I'm probably coming off rather negative towards this product. Whilst it didn't work for me, I do think there are some pros which mean it would be a great product for someone else. Firstly, the creamy and mousse-like consistency does mean it would make for a half decent foundation if you could find the effort to blend it. Personally, I'd much rather use my own - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. When I used my own brushes, the mixture could be applied much easier and better yet, the darker shades can be used for contouring. All in all, whilst I won't be using this any time soon to cover up anything I wanted hidden, it will make an excellent addition to my fancy dress makeup kit.

So that's it for another beauty review. Have you ever tried The Skin Camouflage Kit? What methods do you use to cover scars/marks and tattoos? As usual, I love reading your thoughts so please do leave me lots of lovely comments in the section below.

Until next time beauty lovers,

  2. This isn't good! I want something that gives full coverage! Vichy has a body foundation that can cover my tattoo! My mum uses it on scars and it works wonders!

    1. Yeah I honestly feel like a normal concealer would do a better job without the faff of all this really. Not a fan but maybe it works for some? x

  3. Thank you for your honest review! It would be quite a pain in the butt to mix something daily and it doesn't sound like the product is worth the trouble. Hope you are having a lovely day! XO -Kim

    1. Yeah it's just not something I would purchase myself unfortunately. I don't think it does any better than any concealer you could just buy yourself. Thanks for reading hun :) x
