Film Event: Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick, Somerset House

By now, you all know that I'm a major film nerd and so when I learnt about a new film exhibition at Somerset House, I was pretty darn keen to get over there. Even more so when I realised it was dedicated to the master filmmaker, Stanley Kubrick. Here's a little look...

For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Stanley Kubrick began making films at the age of 25 and went on to make such iconic films as 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971) and The Shining (1980). With his career often surrounded by conspiracy theory, controversy and having explored all matter of genres, Kubrick, remains one of the most inspiring and studied filmmakers. It comes at no surprise than that so many artists were able to draw inspiration from his work when creating theirs for Somerset House's latest exhibit, Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick...

Comprised of work from over sixty artists, Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick is a new exhibition curated by Mo’Wax and UNKLE founder, artist and musician James Lavelle at the iconic Somerset House, London. With forty-five pieces, the installation hosts a series of new and existing pieces through various mixed medias - all inspired by the works of Stanley Kubrick. Be it the man himself, a film, scene, character or perspective - each artist showcases their own interpretation and their personal experience or relationship of the director's work.

These are just a few of my favourite pieces from this stunning exhibit but I could of shared so much more if I thought it wouldn't ruin some of the surprises for you. Tickets for Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick are available online or at the door and are priced at £12.00 each or £9.50 for concessions. Having spent just over an hour inside, I can honestly say this is well worth the ticket price and I'd love to visit again before it closes on August 24th of this year. If you're a die-hard fan of Kubrick or just intrigued to learn more about him as a director and filmmaker, I'd strongly recommend a visit - a true must-see for all film fans.
