Film Event: Backyard Cinema Miami Beach, London

Having made it to the top of  2017 most anticipated film events list, I thought it only fair that I go along and try it out for myself. In desperate need of a mother/daughter evening out, I took my mum along to Backyard Cinema Miami Beach for an evening of film and food. Here's a little look at our evening at the prettiest cinema I've ever seen...

Located just a stones throw from Elephant and Castle tube station, Backyard Cinema Miami Beach is housed inside trendy food court, Mercato Metropolitano. For those of you who have not yet heard of it, Backyard Cinema is a themed pop-up cinema; hosting a variety of films within an immersive London location. Unlike other popular rooftop screenings, Backyard work to create a world that reflects the films within a fun, laid-back environment. To give you a better idea, they've previously created a jungle for Jurassic Park, a zombie apocalypse for Halloween and an old American chapel for a Tarantino season. As you can probably guess from the title of this post, this year, they're back for Summer with Miami Beach.

As you can see, our chosen night was showing La La Land (Damien Chazelle, 2016) and I was super excited to see it a third time in such a fun setting. Having gotten our tickets from the desk, we were invited in to the beach hut; decorated with amazing fruit and seaside inflatables and memorabilia. And, of course, everything is pink *heart eyes*. Once inside, we swapped our shoes for flip flops (don't worry, you can collect your shoes at the end of the film and keep the flip flops) and made our way inside to the screen.

Once inside, the screen is a sight for sore eyes. Complete with palm trees, a lifeguard tower, speedboat, and pink flamingos it is easily the prettiest cinema I've ever seen...ever. Before taking our seats in our giant bean bag chairs (they're so damn comfy), we grabbed some drinks and pick' n 'mix at the cocktail bar which serves a small selection of soft drinks, alcohol, popcorn and sweets.

This middle part of the post is usually where I would put a negative remark quickly followed by something positive - essentially a 'shit sandwich' format. However, hand on heart, I can honestly say there were no flaws. We both had a fantastic evening and I really loved all the little details dotted all over the place. One of my favourite things, in particular, was during a scene in which Mia and Sebastian (Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling) are dancing at the Astronomical Observatory and the glitter ball in the ceiling began to spin and light the room up with tiny stars. It was friggin' adorable to say the least. I will admit that we left a few minutes before the end of the film so not to queue to get our shoes back though.

All in all, we had a fantastic night and I cannot recommend Backyard Cinema enough. Great food, great drinks and a wonderful setting to enjoy a great movie. With it being a particularly warm evening as well, the beach setting was ideal - with fans and sand to keep you cool whilst adding to the atmosphere. If you'd like to see it for yourself, tickets start from £16.50 and screenings are running now until the end of August (with further dates to be added). See more information here. But I'd recommend booking it quickly because tickets sell fast.

Well, that's it for another film review. Have you been to Backyard Cinema yet? What have been some of your favourite film events this year? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave me lots of lovely ones down below.

Until next time fellow film fans,
