Foodie Review: Halloween Afternoon Tea at Royal Lancaster London

With Halloween right around the corner, I was kindly invited along to the Royal Lancaster in London to try out their spooktactular Afternoon Tea inspired by 1960s cult horror films. Sounds pretty perfect, right? Here's a little look at our evening...

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, The Royal Lancaster London are taking it back to the '60s for their Halloween Afternoon Tea*. In the spirit of all things spooky they've come up with a strictly monochrome menu which embraces cult horror films - from Psycho to Night of the Living Dead. I literally cannot think of a meal more suited to my personality. I was super excited to head along with my mama to try out their special Halloween menu.

I'll be honest. Before we arrived, we had planned to go out for dinner afterwards and I was not at all prepared for the amount of food we received. Having taken our seats at our carefully decorated table, we were served a large plater of black and white delights. Starting with an assortment of sandwiches, we enjoyed the Axe-Carved Beef with Horseradish, Smoked Halibut with cream cheese & black caviar on pumpernickel and Ominous Crab Sushi accompanied by a selection of fresh loose leaf teas. with the option of a glass of Lanson Black Label or the Lanson White Label. For me as a non-drinker, I opted for a coke and some still water which suits me just fine.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, the tea also included Cursed Blackbird Macaroon (a marbleised chocolate covered macaroon); super chocolatey 'Psycho' Marbled Lollipops; Black Sunday Battenberg and 'Night of the Living' Tart. If that wasn't enough, we finished up our (already pretty large) meal with freshly baked, warm Chocolate and Coconut Scones - served with Homemade Blackberry Jam and (Blood) Clotted Cream.

All in all, I can't fault our experience. As well as the hotel being a beautiful building, the staff could not have done enough for us and truly delivered a 5 star service. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the Black Pudding Scotch Eggs but the kitchen were more than happy to made amends to the menu to suit all dietary requirements. I truly enjoyed the pieces on the plater - which all looked fantastic as well as being utterly delicious. I really loved the little details on used on the menu and table to incorporate the theme and thought it made for a wonderful spin on a vintage theme.

And so, if you're looking for a fancy way to treat yourself in the build up to Halloween, I cannot recommend this afternoon tea enough. It was a great excuse to dress up smart and enjoy a few hours of tasty Halloween awesomeness. If you'd like to attend yourself, the 1960's Halloween Afternoon Tea is available from the 17th October - 31st October 2017 - priced at £35 per person (with the add-on option of prosecco) and is served from 2pm until 5.30pm. Huge thanks for Royal Lancaster for allowing us to try this out ahead of opening.

Until next time,
