Beauty Review: Jeffree Star Summer Liquid Lipsticks

Jeffree Star Summer Collection lipsticks
Hello, hello! Back again with another beauty review and today I'm sharing my thoughts on the infamous Jeffree Star and part of his latest summer collection.

Jeffree Star Summer Collection review
Ok, so it's safe to say that Jeffree Star has been quite the topic of conversation lately. Ever since Kat Von D shared her video discussing why she was no longer associating herself with Jeffree, even more Youtubers and bloggers have come out of the wood works to voice their opinions and share some not so flattering information. And let's face it - we all secretly love a bit of a drama, don't we?

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks
I totally understand why people have decided to boycott Jeffree Star Cosmetics and are no longer fans of the man himself. However, I can honestly say I was never really someone who 'followed' Jeffree, nor did I purchase the products because I particularly liked him as a celebrity or public figure. Personally, I purchase the velour liquid lipsticks for one reason - they're really fucking good. With all the racist allegations appearing, I'll admit I was pretty torn about whether it was ethical to keep purchasing from the independent brand but then I also imagine that there are so many CEOs for amazing cosmetic brands that we don't even know about. They are just as likely to be arseholes and we don't even know about them. Furthermore, is Jeffree Star Cosmetics not OK to purchase from but then millions still continue to shop at MAC and Benefit who test their products on animals? It's a catch-22 situation and one I'm still on the fence about. Drama aside, however, here's what I thought of his latest Summer Collection...

Jeffree Star Virginity

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in 'Virginity' 0.19oz  - Virginity is probably my favourite of the collection. It has a beautiful lavender tone and, like all JS lipsticks, it has a full and lasting finish. My immediate thoughts were how amazing the watermelon smell is - I thought that perhaps it would be a bit sickly smelling or very strong but the light perfume is a fantastic touch. I'm so pleased I got my hands on this one. The only downside however, being a lighter tone, is that it takes a little while to build up. Having most purchased the darker tones from Star's collection, this is something I had yet to encounter but it's very easy to overcome. Simply apply the first layer, leave a few moments for it to fully dry and then reapply to build up the colour. Of course, like all JS product, this is completely cruelty free, paraben free and vegan.

Jeffree Star 714 lipstickJeffree Star 714 lipstick review

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in '714' 0.19oz - I had been wanting to get my hands on 714 for a while and so when I saw it had been re-released with the Summer Collection, it went straight in my basket. Similar to Virginity and besides being the usual V and CF, the colour does need to be built up a little but it dries as a beautiful matte pink that really pops. This one has less of the watermelon smell (possibly because it was originally part of a different line)and I do think that the Summer Collection does not last as long as the originals I'm used to. The formular seems ever so slightly (maybe with the introduction of the perfume) different meaning it's ever so slightly more watery by comparison but once built up correctly and maybe combined with other cosmetics, they do last.

Jeffree Star Nude Beach Lipstick reviewJeffree Star Nude Beach

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in 'Nude Beach' 0.19oz - I was probably least sure about Nude Beach but it's definitely growing on me. From first impressions, the colour seemed bright orange (like a clown) but once on the lips it does calm down. One thing I will note is that this probably the hardest of the collection to apply and maintain. Again, being a lighter tone, this took quite a bit of building up but will not last after a meal unlike the other JS products I've tried. Having worn the lipsticks for an hour or so and had my dinner, a great deal of the product had been removed and cracked making a horror show of my lips. As such, I'd always recommend carrying this one on you for regular top ups if you plan on wearing it all day. There's no doubting the gorgeous colour though and I think this will make an awesome summery lip colour for my holiday later this year.

Overall, I was pretty darn happy with my Jeffree Star Summer Collection picks although with the only UK provider now dropping Star from their stocklist, I'm wondering whether it will be worth the customs charge and 3-4 week wait to receive them. I honestly think that $10 for postage really isn't that bad though, especially if you're buying more than one item. Personally, I still believe that the originals are some of the best lipsticks on the market and I swear by them. For that reason, I think I will be stocking up on my favourite shades incase they run out and perhaps calming myself on any future products unless they are something truly amazing. I must say that had the Skin Frost been made available here - I definitely would have scooped one up. Such is life. If you want to check out the rest of the Summer Collection (there are two other shades I decided not to feature) you can purchase them from the site here. Alternatively, you can also see my last Jeffree Star review post here

Well, that's it for another beauty review, what do you think of Jeffree Star Cosmetics? Has the drama put you off purchasing from him in the future? As always, I love reading your thoughts so please do leave me lots of lovely comments below. Hope everyone is having an amazing week so far...

Until next time beauty lovers,

  1. I love the shade 714 it's so pretty. Dunno if I could pull off the other two though as I have quite small lips. I've wanted to try the Jeffree Star Matte lipsticks for ages but I can't seem to get hold of the ones I like and can't bring myself to pay shipping & customs cos I'm cheap haha!

    1. Ha I totally get your pain! There's nothing I hate more than customs charges, it's luck of the draw I guess. I paid $10 for postage and then got stuck with a £16 charge and was gutted haha. I'm so glad I have them now though but will stick to my favourite two shades and stock up on those xx

  2. I think the look of the cosmetics is nice, the lipsticks look amazing, and the highlighters are really great. Plus pink packaging is a favourite. True, that we don't usually see the head of a company, but the company itself is now getting a bad rep, even though it's only the figurehead. I don't think I'd be put off though, unless they had bad customer service, I do like a good unique company. I often buy from America, so would definitely say try out the shipping. :)

    1. Yeah I wouldn't normally bother but I honestly do love the products so it's a catch 22 really. I've had no troubles with any of them so far (the lighter shades are understandly more work to build up) but I totally understand why some people have chosen not to shop with him anymore. Totally - definitely worth it if you can get a few bits all at once xx

  3. Great review :) I really enjoyed reading & I love your photography. I am even more tempted to buy some of Jeffree Stars liquid lipsticks now. I have to admit that all the drama happening with Jeffree Star did put me off, but as you say, we don't know what the CEO's of all our favourite cosmetics brands are like. My favourite of these Summer shades is 714, it's really pretty. It sucks that the UK supplier is dropping them, because I always seem to get a customs charge!

  4. To be honest, I'm not letting the drama put me off.
Jeffree may be a bit of an arse, but he's apologised for what he said when he was 19 which tbh we've all done and said stupid things at that age. If it comes to light / I've read it wrong and that it's been more recent then I'll have to reconsider what I feel about supporting the line.

ANYWAY! Negatives aside, I love the colours on you, I need 714 in my life such a stunning shade <3

    1. Aw thanks so much! I can see you wearing all these too. Yeah I just buy them for the products themselves - if it comes from someone whos not a great person (im undecided) then that's a shame but I don't buy it for him x

  7. Love the shades that you've picked, I've never bought any Jeffree Star products but I might consider it seeing the shades you've chosen.

Not sure if the drama would put me off, I don't know all the ins and outs and on that basis I wouldn't want to make a judgement without knowing all the facts.

    1. I'd say if you've never bought them before - definitely go for some of the more original shades cos they are AMAZING. These are great too but not so much full of colour. Definitely worth the shipping I think :) xx

  10. The drama has made me boycott him. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy beautiful photos of the products and makeup. Those colours look absolutely beautiful (and delicious) on you! :)
