Lifestyle Review: A Bank Holiday Birthday

It may have felt like yesterday that I was sharing my birthday day out post but the May bank holiday saw the celebrations happening all over again for Jack's 25th. Wanting to try something a little different and surprise him with something new, here's what we got up on his bank holiday birthday...

Every weekend, Jack and I go out for food, go shopping or to the cinema and so for this 25th birthday, I thought it'd plan a surprise. I did pretty well keeping it quiet for so long but I managed to book a speed boat trip on the River Thames. We'd spotted these boats on a few of our London trips and often commented on how fun they looked and so now seemed as good as time as any to finally get ourselves in one. The Thames RIB Experience offers a number of speed boating trips around the Thames but in particular I liked the look of the Tower Hill Blast - a 50mph, 20 minute lap of Tower Hill on the river. And It did not disappoint.

If you're a bit of a thrill seeker, or even just up for trying something new, I could not recommend this enough. I loved seeing London from a different angle (even whizzing past Jack's work) and of course, going crazy fast on an open top boat. I definitely was not expecting it to be that fun or fast and once it was over, I just wanted to go again.

Having jetted around the Thames at 50mph, we decided we'd worked up quite an appetite and so we headed to Soho for a bite to eat. We stopped in at one of our favourite places, Burger and Lobster. We've been a bunch of times before but a belly full of lobster always makes for a great London day out. For those of you who have never been, here's what it looks like...

We finished up the day with a spot of shopping in Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus before heading home to enjoy a cosy night in with Game of Thrones. We're clearly old now and would rather have a night in then a night out. It wouldn't be a birthday celebration, however, without some cake and so I picked myself and Jack up a little treat each at Lola's Cupcakes.

So that's it for another lifestyle post. Be sure to keep an eye out for my full review of Burger and Lobster coming very soon. What have you got planned this weekend? What's your idea of a fun day out? As always, I love reading your thoughts so please do leave me lots of lovely comments below.

Until next time,

  1. That's such an awesome idea, I bet it was a lot of fun! I went to London on Thursday this week as me and Liam had the week off work and speeding along the Thames would've been pretty cool. Whenever I go to London and walk past Lola's cupcakes and wonder whether they are any good...need to take the plunge next time and buy one! x

    1. Honestly, it was so much fun! I want to go again and take my family cos I think they'd love it. Was such good value too at £25 a ticket (you can get groupon deals). Ugh they're the best cupcakes, I'd say equally as good as the ones you get in Harrods. You can get mini ones (like the one above) or big ones like the ones Jack devours haha x

    1. Ugh it's one of my favourite lunch time treats. Birthdays make an excellent excuse. I'm going to do a proper review later but there's a choice of 3 dishes, burger, lobster or lobster roll and it's all £20 :) x
